    Description

After having spent years of research on my book, this is the only CDV I have come across of Major Charles Banhaf, sometimes spelled Banzhof. He was in the 1st Missouri and possibly 2nd Missouri Cavalry, the famous Merrill's Horse, under Lewis Merrill. Later he was an officer in the Tenth Cavalry (Buffalo Soldiers). Early Tenth Cav CDVs are very hard to find.
In 1870 he was ordered to testify at the court martial in Ft Leavenworth of my book subject, another Tenth Cavalry officer, Bvt Maj George W. Graham. He testified that he served with a Capt William Barr of the 2nd Missouri Cavalry, and that he knew Barr's wife who was involved in the trial. Lewis Merrill presided and knew Banzhaf and Barr. But have not found actual records putting him in the 2nd.
I have a few Indian Wars era items I am listing as I need to weed out collection before retirement. I do not know if this CDV is Civil War or just after.
Please see all photos as the CDV is not flawless, it shows perhaps some water damage around rear.
