    Lieutenant Edgar VanEtten (B: April 1843,D: November 1930), Company B, 2
    nd
    New Jersey Infantry Regiment in civilian dress. The CDV has a backmark from "Wood & Cory, Photographers" on Pike Street in Port Jervis, New York.
    VanEtten, who was a resident of Port Jervis, N.Y., enlisted in the Union Army on 5/27/1861 as a Corporal. On 5/27/1861 he mustered into Co. B, 2

    N.J.
    Infantry
    . He was reduced to ranks as a Private on 12/26/1861 but was promoted to Corporal on 2/13/1862. On 12/25/1862 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and promoted once more to the rank of 2

    Lt. on 2/12/1863.He was mustered out on 6/21/1864 in Newark, NJ. After the war, he worked as the Vice President of the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad Company.
