    Description

Offered from my collection is an original Civil War CDV of Private Warren W. Jones, Company F, 5th Michigan Cavalry, of the famed Custer Brigade.  Company F was formed and recruited by Major Noah Ferry (KIA East Cavalry Field, Gettysburg) and consisted mostly of lumberjacks, saw mill workers, farmers and river men of White River in northern Muskegon County on Lake Michigan.  They became known within the 5th Michigan as the White River Tigers.  Private Jones was one of these men.
Private Jones enlisted in August 1862.  As part of the 5th Michigan Cavalry, he participated in several major battles, among them Gettysburg, The Wilderness, Cold Harbor, and the Appomattox Campaign.  He survived a gunshot wound to the neck that he received in 1864 during the Shenandoah Campaign.  He was taken prisoner near Scottsville, VA on March 17, 1865 and was released about the time of the Confederate surrender at Appomattox.  He was mustered out in June 1865 at Fort Leavenworth, KS.  Pvt. Jones resided in his later years at the Soldiers Home in Milwaukee, WI.  He died on 7/4/14 and is buried in the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, WI.
The CDV is in very nice condition with a soft sepia tone.  A
