Very rare and original, 1860's Ninth Plate Cased Ambrotype Photograph of a young, Civil War 27th Regiment, New York Militia Soldier wearing a wonderful plumed shako.
This very attractive, Ambrotype Photo measures approx. 2” by 2 1/2" (1/6 plate size) and is housed in one half of a period, pressed leather covered hard case (size of case is 2 1/2” by 3”).
This very rare, 1860's Ambrotype Photo is a near ¾ length, seated portrait of a young, New York Militiaman wearing a frock coat with epaulets and a plumed shako with a wreath device and the number “27”. His frock coat has buttons that appear to be New York State design.
This wonderful, 1860's Ninth Plate Ambrotype Photo is in very good condition. The Photo exhibits sharp focus, strong contrast and rich, warm tonality. The Plate is generally very well preserved with a surface rub in the upper left hand quadrant of the background area. Please see the scan below for a good representation of the content and condition of this very attractive, Civil War New York Militia Soldier Ambrotype Photo. As mentioned above, the Ambrotype is housed in one half of a pressed leather covered hard case which is worn.
