Description

11 civil war photographs.  Various formats and sizes but larger than CDV format; various mostly scenes showing battlefield aftermath, fortifications, etc.  Many with pencil identification on the bank, with reference to  Xanthus Russell Smith (1839-1929), who served in the navy during the civil war and was known as a painter of marine and civil war scenes.  Worth further research beyond what is shown here (note one photo is from the frontpiece of "The Photographic History of the Civil War: The Decisive Battles").
